If I were you. . .

If I were you
I'd look the situation over
Wasn't just by accident
Our paths were meant to cross eventually
You say you've lost each time you've tried to give
Well I don't mean to tell you how to live
Ooh but if I were you
I'd fall in love with me

I haven't blogged in a while.  Things have been a little hectic as of late but usually, when it comes to blogging, it's an opportunity for me to express myself in my writing, especially in this way, when it's a way to just let things out so that I can go back and resume normal daily life. Whatever that is anymore! Don't mind me, just trying to collect my thoughts . . .

Have you accidentally crossed paths with people that you never thought you would?  You might have known them from a previous time in your life that you had forgotten about, or had become encased in your mind like a series of sepia-tinted images that playback like some silent film with no words.  Just images that flick through in a silent film reel.  You might have crossed paths with someone who might have noticed you before but you didn't really notice them until they made themselves known to you.

Don't get me wrong
I don't pretend to know the future
If you feel it half as much
When your body touches me
Then you must know it's worth at least a try
So please don't let the good times pass you by
Ooh baby if I were you (if I were you)
I'd fall in love with me

Meeting new people and learning about them takes time and effort.  Things can come all at once and the intensity levels will appear in ebbs and flow much like waves crashing on the shore as if you could predict the tides coming in and out.  Well, you can, it's like clockwork.  But relationships or budding relationship don't happen like that.  Getting to know someone new might mean that you wait for them to disclose as much about themselves as you are prepared to listen to.  But it all depends on how much they want to tell you.  The last thing you want to be is the person who asks too many questions like that guy in the Pixie Caramel ad from the mid-80s who was smart enough to choose 'the longer lasting chew' to escape the Spanish Inquisition (that or your friends who want to everything you didn't actually ask).  We never know what the future brings, so why worry about it?

And if you were me
You'd feel a pounding deep inside you growing stronger
And through these eyes
You know there isn't any reason
To wait any longer

There might even be some points in conversations where there are opportunities to talk about what you would do if they were you and if you were them.  Comparisons that people make about what a course of actions should be taken in any given situation.  I don't know.  What indecisions or hesitations do you have?  I have often marvelled at people who throw caution to the winds and love with such abandon.  Others might think they are selfish in that respect when they don't take into account other people's feelings and don't do what's right by all.  But on the other hand, doesn't love only take into account what exists between you and that one other person?  If we constantly thought about what affected others in any equation, wouldn't we ever fall in love?  Why should we wait any longer?

Ooh take my advice
And all the love I have to give you
Odds are this time you just can't miss
What happened in the past is history
But what's going on right now
Can't be denied
Now I only want to help you to decide
Ooh if I were you
I'd fall in love with me
Uh huh huh huh baby if I were you
I'd fall in love with me
Ooh baby if I were you
I'd fall in love with me

I don't really know this song. I only heard it on Friday last week actually when I was out with some friends singing at a karaoke bar.  She sang the song and I was captured by the melody and the classic 80s vibe that it had.  The bassline has an easy laidback syncopation about it that is accented by that sexy bassline with its octave shifts, sporadic rhythm guitar riffs while the soft keys and strings give some harmonic depth, peppered by the silky background vocals.  I had to really sit down and listen to the lyrics and think about what it means.  Whatever stage you are in your life when it comes to matters of the heart, I hope that you find happiness through your own eyes first.  It can be a difficult process opening up your heart again, to love again, to be loved again, so when you make the final decision to do so, you'll see for yourself that whatever you decide, there isn't any reason to wait . . . . any longer. . .

To be loved by you. . .

To be loved by you is like a breeze Like the summer rain falling through the trees Like the waves that's crashing on the seas, it's easy To be loved by you is like a song Playing in your head you can dance along Like running away with the dawn, it's easy Like flowers bloom, Like my love for you It's been a long time between blog posts. So much has happened since I last reflected about life around me through music. If you have read my blog posts before, then you would know that you are meant to play the YouTube clip (see below) while you read.  I stumbled across this new song that was released today. It's Anzac Day in Aotearoa New Zealand so it's also an opportune time to reflect on the service of our countrymen for peace in previous wars. There is something oddly familiar and comforting about this melody, this song. The whole vibe drew me in and I've always been a huge Emily King fan. Are you currently with someone who helps you feel this way? What is it lik...

Masterpiece (Mona Lisa). . .

My eyes ain't used to these rays I'm feeling exposed but I hide no more I can't hide As the sun shines on all of my glory My flaws don't look so bad at all What was I so afraid of? No matter how hard you try to hide, or try to be inconspicuous, it doesn't make a damn bit of difference. Trying to be lowkey when you are on high profile horizons is ridiculous. When your skills, gifts and talents thrust you into the spotlight, you know that you have a responsibility to do your best at all times, because it is no longer about you - it is about who you represent. You might be afraid that your failures and trauma, including your human flaws will all be on display for the world to see - but who has not lived an imperfect life? Why are we afraid of being exposed? Society teaches us to conform and be uniform. Sometimes all we need to do is insist on being comfortable with all our decisions, no matter where they lead us or where we were placed - because our flaws aren't as...
