I look to you. . .

As I lay me down
Heaven hear me now
I'm lost without a cause
After giving it my all

It can be easy to feel like there is no way out of a situation that you find yourself in.  You can put so much of yourself into something, give it your all, and then doubt whether you have really made an impression at all. You start to question whether you have made an impact.  We may think that our prayers are never heard, never answered, never touch who we want them to.  It is important to embrace these feelings and master these types of emotions, especially the negative ones that threaten to steal your joy.  We should never feel like we are lost without a cause - because this means we are not honouring our purpose or divine mission that we were all uniquely born to fulfill.

Winter storms have come
And darkened my sun
After all that I've been through
Who on earth can I turn to

It may start to feel like life just doesn't want to cut you a break. It can be really easy to entertain one negative thought and watch it snowball into something that you didn't anticipate seeing and feeling.  I've been talking to lots of people over the past few months about their own health and wellbeing.  It is something that we think about as we go about working on problems that we need to solve, people that we need to care for, situations that require us to dig deep.

I look to you
I look to you
And when the melodies are gone
In you, I hear a song

If you read my blog, you'll know that I use song lyrics as a focal point to talk about and discuss what I see and feel around me, whoever offloads their troubles to me, who expresses the challenges that they are going through - we need to be mindful of the melodies that have disappeared from our lives.  The people with their familiar strain of melodies that we could count on to call home, melodies that we recognised and helped keep us sane and safe.  But now we need to either trust our own melodies from within ourselves or learn to discern which other melodies we connect with, to create our own music.

After losing my breath
There's no more fighting left
Sinking to rise no more
Searching for that open door

People often say you are stronger than you think.
But you never really notice how strong you truly are, until you are at your absolute weakest point.  When you are at that point that you think it is not humanly possible to be in such a space.  Do you have any fight left in you?  What are you fighting for in your life?  Even when we feel that there is no way out, there is always a way.  There is always a door that leads somewhere.  Pay close attention to what surrounds you.  Pay close attention to who wants to be near you.  Pay close attention to how important your freedom is.  Make the most of the opportunities that present themselves and live a well-intentioned life that has an impact on people who would ordinarily be scorned and continue to be marginalised.

And every road that I've taken
Led to my regret
And I don't know how I'm gonna make it
Nothing to do but lift my head

Regret is a tricky feeling.
If you don't know how to manage your feelings when you are sitting in that space of regret, it could take you down rabbit holes that you can't afford to visit.  Accepting what you cannot change is absolutely the right way to go about.  Explaining your position and showing your truth is the only way you can go about it.  Continue to focus on the good things that you do for others.  You might be feeling undervalued and unappreciated.  Why do we torture ourselves feeling that way?  We might think that this is what life is all about - teaching us how to develop patience and remain humble because if we get too arrogant, it is only a matter of time before we get our comeuppance.

I look to you
I look to you
And when all my strength is gone
In you, I can be strong

Can you trust who you look towards?
If you have burned a number of times, it stands to reason that you are not a fan of disclosing any information to anybody.  You are beyond trying to reach out and trying to understand how things work, why people say what they say to you, why you are treated the way you are.  People say things so simply sometimes as if we can just airbrush our way out of any situation.  When in actual fact, it takes some good long looks in the mirror to think about what we need to do.

I look to you
My levies are broken
My walls are coming down
Crumbling down on me

The thing about walls is that you learn to figure out whether you are keeping yourself in or closing other people out.  The time for hiding yourself has come to an end.  If you think that you are going to have to be a tall poppy for the rest of your life - the answer is no.  There is no amount of dimming your light that could stop people from taking notice of who you are, what you are about and why you were born into this world.  I don't know if looking for someone anymore is sufficient.  We should be looking up and looking out into the world.  Take notice of things that you might ordinarily ignore.  The many times you have been ignored yourself could be proportionate to the number of times that you have in fact ignored others.  Dust off the debris and stand tall.  Your walls no longer hide you.

All the rain is falling
Defeat is calling
I need you to set me free

Have you been able to catch a breath?
How have you been dealing with the falling rain lately?
It's all a matter of perception, isn't it?  How you see yourself, how others see you.
There is a fine balance in being honest with yourself and being honest with others.
Who can you rely on to set you free?  Instead of looking to others for salvation, trust in yourself to know that you know what needs to happen, you know what needs to move through the motions, what needs to be accelerated.

Take me far away from the battle
I need you
Shine on me

I hope that whatever battles you are facing in your life, that you are well equipped, that you have both an attack plan and a defensive plan.  Sometimes you need to be taken off the battlefield before you fire shots that you can't recall.  People are like seasons that come and go in your life. The greatest lessons come from the most unexpected of places.  If you need healing, seek the appropriate channels to restore your wellbeing and energy levels.  Depending on what needs to happen to have some sort of semblance of peace in your life, just know that nothing is ever promised. Regardless of what is going on, be aware of where you are and live in the now.  I sometimes catch that in someone's eye when they look at me.  Sometimes it's better to ignore and shift your focus and eye level to raise it higher. It's why I look to you. . .

To be loved by you. . .

To be loved by you is like a breeze Like the summer rain falling through the trees Like the waves that's crashing on the seas, it's easy To be loved by you is like a song Playing in your head you can dance along Like running away with the dawn, it's easy Like flowers bloom, Like my love for you It's been a long time between blog posts. So much has happened since I last reflected about life around me through music. If you have read my blog posts before, then you would know that you are meant to play the YouTube clip (see below) while you read.  I stumbled across this new song that was released today. It's Anzac Day in Aotearoa New Zealand so it's also an opportune time to reflect on the service of our countrymen for peace in previous wars. There is something oddly familiar and comforting about this melody, this song. The whole vibe drew me in and I've always been a huge Emily King fan. Are you currently with someone who helps you feel this way? What is it lik...

Masterpiece (Mona Lisa). . .

My eyes ain't used to these rays I'm feeling exposed but I hide no more I can't hide As the sun shines on all of my glory My flaws don't look so bad at all What was I so afraid of? No matter how hard you try to hide, or try to be inconspicuous, it doesn't make a damn bit of difference. Trying to be lowkey when you are on high profile horizons is ridiculous. When your skills, gifts and talents thrust you into the spotlight, you know that you have a responsibility to do your best at all times, because it is no longer about you - it is about who you represent. You might be afraid that your failures and trauma, including your human flaws will all be on display for the world to see - but who has not lived an imperfect life? Why are we afraid of being exposed? Society teaches us to conform and be uniform. Sometimes all we need to do is insist on being comfortable with all our decisions, no matter where they lead us or where we were placed - because our flaws aren't as...
