The promise. . . .

Life is so unpredictable
People come, people go
Is there anything that's for sure?
We don't know, I don't know
In a world that you don't believe in fairytales
They don't come true, it's good to know
In your time of need,
That you've got something to hold onto

I don't know how you can keep people in your lives, or watch them go without stopping them.  You can't control that.  So just when you think things are for sure, that things are certain, they will suddenly show that they aren't. Why do we insist on fairytales?  Sometimes we can't believe everything that we read.  Instead, we need to figure out what we need to keep close to ourselves, or share openly with others if they are willing to accept or divulge.

I can't promise the moon
I might just sing out of tune
But I will always be true
This is my promise to you
This is my promise to you

Learning how to be true may take a bit of practice.  We never know if we are doing things the right way, but we need to keep pushing on until things are cleared up until things come to their natural conclusion.  What can you promise?  Do you know how to keep promises?  How can I be true to someone who doesn't know how to be true to me?  I guess that's what relationships are meant to test.  Whether you are prepared to do what it takes to be what you need to be in that connection, whether you will sever it or not.

I'll be the light that shines through your darkest days
The one true voice that you won't escape
When you're lost I'll be that familiar face
This is my promise to you
This is my promise to you

You can only shine as bright as you can for those in their darkest days if they have asked you to shine.  When you are told that you can connect with people on so many different levels, that it doesn't matter on which level they try to come - you can still meet them there. Is it your fault when they can't cope with how that feels on their end?  Absolutely not.  How much longer will you be the familiar face?  Will you be able to keep the promise any longer?  What other promises should you make?

What becomes of a broken heart?
Where does it go, where does it go
Does it heal or just fall apart
We don't know, I don't know
You can't be afraid to try
When you fall again get up again
All that you need to know is that
You're not alone
I'll be your friend

People will try to protect you from getting hurt by others who claim that they never want to hurt you.  Why does that seem like some self-fulfilling prophecy then?  Why do people say things that they inadvertently end up having to do?  I'm not sure that there is anything else you could do to ensure that things are done the right way. When you start to get pushed away from those who you have helped, for reasons unknown, just leave them be and let them come and see you when they want to reconnect.

I'll be the sweet remembrance
Of days gone by
If someone comforts you when you cry
Till the end I'll be by your side
This is my promise to you
This is my promise to you
I don't know what else to do
This is my promise to you

I hope that you know who the real friends are in your life.  The ones who drop everything to make sure that you are ok.  The ones who will give their last ten dollars so that you have something to eat.  We take for granted those who get us through our toughest times.  We may not be seeking credit or some sort of gratitude, but I guess all you really want is some respect as a friend.  Make sure you keep your promises to your friends and loved ones.  But most of all, remind those you love that they are worthy of love.  I can't keep count of how many people I have had to remind them about being loved.  So anytime you forget how much you mean to me, I won't let you forget - this is my promise to you. . . .

To be loved by you. . .

To be loved by you is like a breeze Like the summer rain falling through the trees Like the waves that's crashing on the seas, it's easy To be loved by you is like a song Playing in your head you can dance along Like running away with the dawn, it's easy Like flowers bloom, Like my love for you It's been a long time between blog posts. So much has happened since I last reflected about life around me through music. If you have read my blog posts before, then you would know that you are meant to play the YouTube clip (see below) while you read.  I stumbled across this new song that was released today. It's Anzac Day in Aotearoa New Zealand so it's also an opportune time to reflect on the service of our countrymen for peace in previous wars. There is something oddly familiar and comforting about this melody, this song. The whole vibe drew me in and I've always been a huge Emily King fan. Are you currently with someone who helps you feel this way? What is it lik...

Masterpiece (Mona Lisa). . .

My eyes ain't used to these rays I'm feeling exposed but I hide no more I can't hide As the sun shines on all of my glory My flaws don't look so bad at all What was I so afraid of? No matter how hard you try to hide, or try to be inconspicuous, it doesn't make a damn bit of difference. Trying to be lowkey when you are on high profile horizons is ridiculous. When your skills, gifts and talents thrust you into the spotlight, you know that you have a responsibility to do your best at all times, because it is no longer about you - it is about who you represent. You might be afraid that your failures and trauma, including your human flaws will all be on display for the world to see - but who has not lived an imperfect life? Why are we afraid of being exposed? Society teaches us to conform and be uniform. Sometimes all we need to do is insist on being comfortable with all our decisions, no matter where they lead us or where we were placed - because our flaws aren't as...
