Worthy. . .

I know exactly what you're thinkin'
I've had those thoughts a million times
I can see the question that's behind your eyes, oh
You're searching for your peace of mind

Have you met people who know exactly what you're thinking?  That they can put into words what you struggle to articulate?  You might have thoughts that are negative and threaten to erase all of the carefully selected words that you have crafted to protect yourself, happily and safely ensconced in your own cocoon.  Do you go through life thinking that all of the bad things, all of the challenges that you are facing is because you are not worthy of good things?  That's the completely wrong way to look at things.  When you go to search for your peace of mind, do you actually find that your mind is in pieces?  How will you start to put things back together and figure things out?

Now listen up to this truth
You are me and I am you
Every one of us is worthy
Baby girl, worthy woman
Every one of us is worthy

It is hard to see beyond your own pain and trials to then consider someone else and their own story.  But I think it's important that we are able to do that so that we can start to build empathy and flex those muscles of care so that we recognise how to use them.  It might take a while to listen to the truth, because not only may the truth hurt, but we might not be accustomed to listening to the truth or even telling it.  Are you able to put yourself in the shoes of someone else?  Are you able to see what they feel inside?

I know your life, I felt your pain
I know your joys and your shames
Sometimes it feels like life walks over you, oh
Like you're a penny on the ground

How do others know your life?  Do you tell them freely about what the inner intricacies are?  Do they know how to feel the pain that you feel?  It takes a lot for you to be able to share such things with others, and if you do, it is because you have found in them a chance to create a sanctuary that is safe, a chance to know that even if we can feel completely worthless at times, we must never forget that we cannot continue to let life walk over us.  We cannot let people walk over us.  What are you prepared to do?  Are you that penny on the ground?

But either on the ground or in your purse
The smallest piece still holds its worth
Every one of us is worthy
Baby girl, worthy woman
Every one of us is worthy
Baby girl, worthy woman
Every one of us is worthy

Do you spend enough time telling all the young girls and the women in your life that they are worthy?  It can be easy to pull each other down and pass judgement on things and people as you have said them.  But when will we start to see that every one of us is worthy?  Even those we would rather not see again or spend time with?  I guess as women we can't afford to be pulling each other down either.  There are already enough people who try to do that - in other areas of your life.

Worthy of love
Worthy of life
Worthy of saying no when something don't feel right
This is a song for you
For all the ups and downs that life will put you through, oh

Do you know your self worth?  It can be hard to know if you are worthy of love because you're not sure how to proceed or recognise what it is.  Everyone is worthy of being loved.  You just need to bear in mind what you are prepared to accept when it comes to matters of the heart.  Everyone is worthy of life.  We just need to make a living, build a life that makes us remember how worthy we truly are.  Are you prepared for the ups and downs of life?  We never really know what lies in store for us, but we should remain hopeful and remind ourselves that we are worthy of love and worthy of life.

Now listen up to this truth
You are me and I am you
Every one of us is worthy, yeah
Baby girl, worthy woman
Every one of us is worthy
Baby girl, worthy woman
Every one of us is worthy

I hope that you take the time to put yourself in someone else's shoes.  How can we even being to comprehend what someone is going through if we don't reach out and consider how they are perceiving their own truth?  In the same token, sometimes they need to be left alone to weather the storm on their own and arrive at a conclusion that will be staring them straight in the face.  We should never be afraid of who we are and where we have come from.  We are all worthy of everything good that flows through us, to us and from us.  So baby girl, worthy woman, every one of us is worthy. . .

Closer. . .

I was cruising down the street with my head in the sky Going nowhere fast trying to stay high oh, oh Windows down my arms are waving Oh Lord I can't feel ma face no no, no no, aye, Sister please won't you sing for me Sing a song to set us free, free Brother please won't you sing for me Sing a song to set us free, free The original version of this song is upbeat. I prefer this acoustic version as it resonates more with me, something about it going deep down in my soul (or it could just be the piano accompaniment). We might think we are heading nowhere fast because we keep comparing ourselves to our peers, our contemporaries and the timeline that we set for ourselves to complete all of our dreams and goals. We forget that life happens and things outside of our control, start to take control - and this is where the real work begins within ourselves - whether we have the right support systems of brothers and sisters to sing us songs of freedom - what can we collectively do toge...

Have you ever seen the rain? . . .

Comin' down on a sunny day. . .  Someone told me long ago There's a calm before the storm I know it's been comin for some time When it's over so they say It'll rain a sunny day I know shinin' down like water Learning to be prepared for any given event is something that you should be able to do. I've recently discovered this amazing artist named Josh Tatofi.  I think the reason why I love his voice so much is because he sounds like my late husband.  The same smooth vocal line, the effortless way in which he dances along the melody line and does his own background harmonies reminds me so much of Loma's insistence on perfection when it came to singing, as much as he joked around about just singing for fun.  I love the arrangement of the song - it's fresh, easy going and laidback and it's something you can easily bob your head along to in the car or wherever you seem to be travelling to or from. I want to know Have you ever seen the rai...

God provides. . .

There's no more need to fight. . .  God provides, so why do I worry about my life When you come to my rescue a thousand times Every other voice it is a lie God provides It is easy to worry about your life.  It's what humans are built to do. We worry about so many things.  What people think of us.  How we act towards said people.  We worry about things that we cannot control, things we cannot hold.  We spend far too much time worrying about things that we shouldn't be worrying about.  When we think that nothing can come from anything, that's when God provides, above all else.  How many times have you been rescued?  Did you ask to be rescued?  Did you ask to be placed in those situations that required God to step in and save you?  Maybe yes.  Maybe no.  But one thing that I've come to know is that God has never lead me to a place that I couldn't get through, that I couldn't understand why I was lead there, that I di...
