Lease on life. . .

Like a sunrise on the longest night
Like a rescue coming just in time
Yeah, you save me, when I cannot see the light
Like a heartbeat to a lonely drum
When I thought that the end, that the end had come
You remind me that it's only just begun

When we are in dark places, we may think we will never see the light. When we are in trouble and think there will be nobody to rush to our rescue, we may give up hope. Do you surround yourself with people who understand exactly what it is that you need? When we lose sight of where we are in any given moment when we cannot recognise our surroundings - people, and environment; it is time to step back and take stock of what it is that you want in life, what you need in life and how you choose to navigate how to get there. Some choices may be difficult to make but must be made. Where will you begin?

Took my soul down to the water mama
I came back a different man
Long as we got one another singing (oh, oh, oh)

Where do you go for healing? Being able to cleanse yourself from situations and places that threaten to overwhelm you can be really difficult to juggle. Will you be prepared to come back a different man? Why do we need to change? Heading down to the water may take some time for you to travel down that path. When you are ready to wash away all of those thoughts in your head, will you be ok again?

Everything's gonna be alright, everything's gonna be alright
Got a brand new, got a brand new, got a brand new lease on life
Everything's gonna be alright when I look into your eyes
Got a brand new, got a brand new, got a brand new lease on life

I've been sitting on this blog post for so long. Can you believe since last year? But recent events of the past two days have prompted me to finish this draft and let this go. So much is going on around me and I feel like I'm standing still. I see so much chaos and so many broken people, myself included, particularly when I look in the mirror. When will we know that it is time for something completely brand new?

Like a deep breath, you want to take me in
When I hold you, I'm alive again
You're the proof that God's been listening
You're the side where the grass is green
Yeah, you shake me like a tambourine
No jerseys but we make quite a team

Being able to shift your perspective can take a while to achieve. Will you allow yourself the chance to be open to the kind of peace that this world cannot give? How do you know when God has been listening? Sometimes you can't tell. All you have to do is trust, have faith and leave it in His inbox to deal with in His time and not yours. I am learning to appreciate the simple things in life, things I would probably normally take for granted.

When you took my soul down to the water, mama
I came back a different man
Long as we got one another singing  (oh, oh, oh)

Where will you allow yourself to be lead? It takes a lot to trust somebody and make space for them to be able to hold space with you and negotiate, communicate, navigate and forge ahead, even when you never know for sure. You don't actually need to know. Keep remembering the things that make your heart sing and do more of that. We spend too much time on things and people who do not deserve your focus.

Everything's gonna be alright, everything's gonna be alright
Got a brand new, got a brand new, got a brand new lease on life
Everything's gonna be alright

I hope that whatever you're going through in life, that you never lose hope. Having a small glimmer of hope is all that you need, the more you start to believe, your faith continues to grow. The more you surround yourself with people who deserve the best of you - that is all you need to know. Make everything right within yourself, with others who need you the most and you'll know then that everything's gonna be alright. It's how I've got my brand new lease on life. . .

God provides. . .

There's no more need to fight. . .  God provides, so why do I worry about my life When you come to my rescue a thousand times Every other voice it is a lie God provides It is easy to worry about your life.  It's what humans are built to do. We worry about so many things.  What people think of us.  How we act towards said people.  We worry about things that we cannot control, things we cannot hold.  We spend far too much time worrying about things that we shouldn't be worrying about.  When we think that nothing can come from anything, that's when God provides, above all else.  How many times have you been rescued?  Did you ask to be rescued?  Did you ask to be placed in those situations that required God to step in and save you?  Maybe yes.  Maybe no.  But one thing that I've come to know is that God has never lead me to a place that I couldn't get through, that I couldn't understand why I was lead there, that I di...

I smile. . .

You look so much better when you. . .  I dedicate this song to recession Depression and unemployment This song's for you When you think about songs that have dedications at the beginning during the introduction, how does it contribute to the song?  I often think about how those dedications speak to my own situation.  We may all be going through some trials at the moment and nobody around us is none the wiser.  I've often spoken about it to friends when we do that usual - how are you?  The expected answer is - I'm good. But really we're not.  Why do we do that to ourselves?  We don't want to burden others with our problems or issues. Sometimes the flip side might be true and you have friends who dump their problems and issues onto you, but don't reciprocate.  I hope people get to know you and what you're about.  They need to see that they might be potentially ruining the friendship or connection by doing that. Today's a new day but th...

Closer. . .

I was cruising down the street with my head in the sky Going nowhere fast trying to stay high oh, oh Windows down my arms are waving Oh Lord I can't feel ma face no no, no no, aye, Sister please won't you sing for me Sing a song to set us free, free Brother please won't you sing for me Sing a song to set us free, free The original version of this song is upbeat. I prefer this acoustic version as it resonates more with me, something about it going deep down in my soul (or it could just be the piano accompaniment). We might think we are heading nowhere fast because we keep comparing ourselves to our peers, our contemporaries and the timeline that we set for ourselves to complete all of our dreams and goals. We forget that life happens and things outside of our control, start to take control - and this is where the real work begins within ourselves - whether we have the right support systems of brothers and sisters to sing us songs of freedom - what can we collectively do toge...
