It ain't yours to throw away. . .

That same road that brought you here
Will sure as hell take you home
The life you left behind will have you back
You're tired of paying dues in worn out shoes
And Broadway blues
And any fool will tell you
The damn ol' deck is stacked

Do you want to return to the life that you once had? It is always easy to reminisce about the good times, the great times in fact, that may be treasured moments in your heart. You wonder sometimes whether the road that you travel on will take you places where you meet good people with good hearts, but more importantly, with good ears. When will we get to a point where we have finished paying our dues? How much longer do you have to be patient before your chance comes around? When will the odds ever be in your favour?

What if you're just a vessel
And God gave you something special

If you are a vessel, do you know what you carry? What are we doing to pour the best of ourselves out to others so that they can go and spread good energy (not spread their legs #NZlockdownjoke). Are we paying close enough attention ourselves as vessels? We have to make sure that we look after ourselves if we are vessels. We have a mission to live our purpose and to take all of the lessons from the experiences and put them to use.

It ain't yours to throw away
It ain't yours to throw away
Every time you open your mouth
Diamonds come rolling out
It ain't yours to throw away
No.......

The moment you start to think that everything is all yours and that it hasn't been gifted to you by some divine power or through that niggling sense of destiny that you are trying to avoid - we have a responsibility to honour the gifts we hold. Why would people want to throw a gift away? Do those gifts cause you pain? Are we not grateful for gifts? We can't re-gift those gifts that were made with us in mind, those gifts that connect intimately and inextricably with the essence of you. There is something to said about the ability to produce something that will be useful to more than just you.

And all of the players, the movers and shakers
The story maker suits have gone home
You drew the last straw
You thought it was your shot
But now it's just one more chance blown

How do we deal with lost opportunities and missed chances? When you count on something so badly and it doesn't eventuate, how do prepare yourself to brush it off or learn to roll with the punches? Life will always bring you plenty of opportunities to grow from situations that have been laid in your path for you to endure. This is all a part of the human condition; how we learn to make the most of how to connect what makes us special, to the rest of the world. I guess this is what we need to spend life trying to figure out - finding your people. or your tribe to sustain you on your travels.

And our town is cold as January
Life comes true, dreams get buried
Everyday.......
Destiny won't be denied

When things don't happen for us straight away, we should never feel discouraged. In our impatience we forget to take stock of our surroundings and knowing exactly where we are. Do you make enough observations to know exactly who you are? Why do we continue to allow life to get in the way of fulfilling our destiny? We just need to stop procrastinating, stop complaining and start rejuvenating, start reframing. What if our biggest enemies all along were our own selves denying us passage to that road that will take us where we need to be?

It ain't yours to throw away
It ain't yours to throw away
Every time you open your mouth
Diamonds come rolling out
It ain't yours to throw away

I hope that you know what is yours to throw away.
We need to keep sight of our inner worth and our value. We need to keep in mind that we must continue to speak life into others, and not death.  It's Father's Day here in New Zealand and pretty soon millions of my fellow countrymen are already up and preparing breakfast for their Dads (or people who have played the role of father in the absence of one). Sometimes we might be fearful of the diamonds that come rolling out of our mouths, because we only ever wait for others to verify or confirm said diamonds. Just remember that you are unique. You are special. You have gifts and talents that are worth celebrating. So don't be discouraged, give up or walk away. Remember who you are and know that it ain't yours to throw away. . .

To be loved by you. . .

To be loved by you is like a breeze Like the summer rain falling through the trees Like the waves that's crashing on the seas, it's easy To be loved by you is like a song Playing in your head you can dance along Like running away with the dawn, it's easy Like flowers bloom, Like my love for you It's been a long time between blog posts. So much has happened since I last reflected about life around me through music. If you have read my blog posts before, then you would know that you are meant to play the YouTube clip (see below) while you read.  I stumbled across this new song that was released today. It's Anzac Day in Aotearoa New Zealand so it's also an opportune time to reflect on the service of our countrymen for peace in previous wars. There is something oddly familiar and comforting about this melody, this song. The whole vibe drew me in and I've always been a huge Emily King fan. Are you currently with someone who helps you feel this way? What is it lik...

Masterpiece (Mona Lisa). . .

My eyes ain't used to these rays I'm feeling exposed but I hide no more I can't hide As the sun shines on all of my glory My flaws don't look so bad at all What was I so afraid of? No matter how hard you try to hide, or try to be inconspicuous, it doesn't make a damn bit of difference. Trying to be lowkey when you are on high profile horizons is ridiculous. When your skills, gifts and talents thrust you into the spotlight, you know that you have a responsibility to do your best at all times, because it is no longer about you - it is about who you represent. You might be afraid that your failures and trauma, including your human flaws will all be on display for the world to see - but who has not lived an imperfect life? Why are we afraid of being exposed? Society teaches us to conform and be uniform. Sometimes all we need to do is insist on being comfortable with all our decisions, no matter where they lead us or where we were placed - because our flaws aren't as...
