A Great Work. . .

Sometimes there are obstacles in the road
That you leave you feeling low
And you don't know how to move forward
And sometimes there are turns you wanna take
But the way gets hard to trace
Now you're wondering how did you get here

When we come across obstacles, it's like that is all we see.  We forget that there are other things in our line of vision if we focus hard enough.  We lose sight of our goals and what we had originally set out to achieve because we listen to people telling us we cannot do it.  We allow our ears to be filled by negative thoughts and just because nobody else has done it the way that you are planning to - it doesn't mean that you can't.  It just means that they are not fully aware of the obstacles that in front of you either.  Instead, they try to limit your options because they could never see the same options for themselves.  If you continue to believe the worst in yourself, even after you have continued to be uplifted and prayed over, then that's on you.  Why do we never accept the help that comes our way?

But don't you give up
Until you see
How God is ordering your steps
So you can walk into your seas

Walking in faith is hard.  It's hard because you never expect to have to submit and cede all control.  It's totally natural that you would want to know exactly where you are heading, but sometimes you might never know the way ahead.  It is not as clearcut as you would like it to be.  Anything worth having is never easy to come by and you will only learn this the hard way.  Are you paying close attention to know where your steps are going?  Is there a pattern in those steps that you can follow?  How will you know how to dance if you don't pay attention to those steps.  You will need to learn the basic survival skills so that you can last on your own.  What do those stormy seas hold for you?  Are you prepared for the obstacles in that ocean?  We cannot afford to give up.  More than we could ever know.

He that has begun
A great work in you
Is faithful to perform it
God is faithful to perform it
He that has begun
A great work in you
Is faithful to perform it
God is faithful to perform it

We want the prize but aren't prepared to train for it or earn it.  There is no difference between professing that you have faith in God, but then don't believe that He can follow through in His time.  What seems like a great work to us, is just a small act of kindness, a small act of mercy and grace from Him.  What has He begun in you?  When we forget what our destiny is, what our divine mission is, then no wonder obstacles start to form in our path.  We lose sight of our faith and how we can push ourselves to really extend as well as realise our potential.  What are you faithful enough to perform?  What are you preparing to begin?  Can we inspire each other to do great work too?  Ego has a lot to answer for the unwillingness to try this.  How can we be faithful to others when we aren't faithful to our own priorities?  Maybe that's why we should be learning from how He performs faithfully to us.

I declare you will know the favor of the Lord
And receive a Hollis for your seed

Do you know what the favour of the Lord feels like?  There have not been many times I have ever really felt so awash with His Holy Spirit, but I feel it's because I haven't realised His favour on me.  There have been times when I thought I was in a total pit of despair but didn't see the favour that He had placed in my hands.  Sometimes when you see nothing, there is something far greater that is not visible to the naked eye.  So ask yourself when have you felt the favour?  When have you felt the purest joy in the simplest things?  What seeds are you taking to plant in your life?  This section of the song is a turning point for me because musically there is a shift to an understanding of what is possible from what you thought was not.  There is opportunity for growth where once before you saw only barren landscape.

And in due time
God will blow your mind
With what He planted inside of you
To bless the world as bloom

How patient are you?  When we are seeing things as having finite time, we are in some kind of constant state of urgency to complete tasks quickly, rather than seeing things through to fruition so that people are encouraged.  I have lost track of the countless times God has blown my mind. What I have thought was completely impossible, I have been able to see miracles manifest.  God knows exactly when I start to lose my way.  He brings me signs to remind me about the promises that He has made, together with my own promises that I have made that I must never forget.  Will you be vigilant enough to see what He has planted in you?  We forget that the seeds once nurtured are meant to bloom for the world to see.  They can be revealed as a flower that you can pick off a branch and gift to someone or you can make sure that you show someone else how to nurture and grow their own.

So if you ever get discouraged
Speak to yourself and say
God is doing a great work
He's doing a great work
He's doing a great work
In me

I hope that you realise that everyone has an opportunity to realise the great work that God has placed in you.  We are all born with different gifts and talents that we must learn to nurture, strengthen and share with those who need it most.  You might think that you have nothing worth sharing with others.  Don't think like that.  Everybody has a part to play in all of the interactions that we have with others.  How can we ensure that the great work that is deep within us, is able to surface when it's time to be shared?  I guess we need to spend time connecting with like minds and people that share our philosophies, that share our mission and divine purpose to help as much as possible.  The most meek and mild of us will often be the voices of reason that need to be heard.  Take the time to speak life into yourself.  Take the time to understand that even if it doesn't feel like it right now, just know that in you, yes you reading this right now, He's doing a great work. . .

Closer. . .

I was cruising down the street with my head in the sky Going nowhere fast trying to stay high oh, oh Windows down my arms are waving Oh Lord I can't feel ma face no no, no no, aye, Sister please won't you sing for me Sing a song to set us free, free Brother please won't you sing for me Sing a song to set us free, free The original version of this song is upbeat. I prefer this acoustic version as it resonates more with me, something about it going deep down in my soul (or it could just be the piano accompaniment). We might think we are heading nowhere fast because we keep comparing ourselves to our peers, our contemporaries and the timeline that we set for ourselves to complete all of our dreams and goals. We forget that life happens and things outside of our control, start to take control - and this is where the real work begins within ourselves - whether we have the right support systems of brothers and sisters to sing us songs of freedom - what can we collectively do toge...

Have you ever seen the rain? . . .

Comin' down on a sunny day. . .  Someone told me long ago There's a calm before the storm I know it's been comin for some time When it's over so they say It'll rain a sunny day I know shinin' down like water Learning to be prepared for any given event is something that you should be able to do. I've recently discovered this amazing artist named Josh Tatofi.  I think the reason why I love his voice so much is because he sounds like my late husband.  The same smooth vocal line, the effortless way in which he dances along the melody line and does his own background harmonies reminds me so much of Loma's insistence on perfection when it came to singing, as much as he joked around about just singing for fun.  I love the arrangement of the song - it's fresh, easy going and laidback and it's something you can easily bob your head along to in the car or wherever you seem to be travelling to or from. I want to know Have you ever seen the rai...

God provides. . .

There's no more need to fight. . .  God provides, so why do I worry about my life When you come to my rescue a thousand times Every other voice it is a lie God provides It is easy to worry about your life.  It's what humans are built to do. We worry about so many things.  What people think of us.  How we act towards said people.  We worry about things that we cannot control, things we cannot hold.  We spend far too much time worrying about things that we shouldn't be worrying about.  When we think that nothing can come from anything, that's when God provides, above all else.  How many times have you been rescued?  Did you ask to be rescued?  Did you ask to be placed in those situations that required God to step in and save you?  Maybe yes.  Maybe no.  But one thing that I've come to know is that God has never lead me to a place that I couldn't get through, that I couldn't understand why I was lead there, that I di...
