You. . .

People always ask me why I am always so
Happy and never down
And why I'm always laughing and how they
Never seem to catch me with a frown

It takes a lot for you to show only the positive aspects of your life or only to show the joy that you know other people need.  I've seen friends and acquaintances struggle with some deep issues within their own lives recently and they have shared their pain. It is always heartwarming to know that people can share their lived realities with you and that you can reciprocate the love that you know they need too.  When I think about the alternatives to being happy - what other options do you have?  Most people will tend to move towards the more negative emotions that have the danger of you wallowing in your own self-pity, and you process things much more slowly.

Some may think it's not real and I know
That a lot feel it's a show
So I wrote this song to tell you about someone
I am familiar with and know

Whether people choose to believe you and your state of happiness - is totally up to them.  I don't know who you can convince someone that you're happy when they don't believe you.  Do we know what's real these days?  I think because we are so bogged down with so many of life's issues and problems that we have to fix - either through our own doing or others - then our state of happiness is definitely affected.  I think there is power in being able to show support and love to someone even when they are always considered the 'strong' one in their circle of friends.  When strong friends need support, who do they turn to?  Not to the weaker friends in their circle, because they are always the strong one for everyone else.  Instead, they have to seek support from people outside their usual circle, or a strong person reaches out to them because only strong people know when other strong people are weak.

So I tell 'em that it's You
You're the reason why I smile
You pick me up when I am low
That's what you get when you're His child

I have lost count of how many times I have been disappointed by so many things or people during the course of my life.  I don't expect that to change anytime soon.  What I do expect to change is how I react to all of that.  When you go to rely on people to take you through your hardships, they might not know exactly what you need or how they are meant to help you.  Have you remembered to show people how God continues to show up for you?  In places where you thought that only darkness and despair prevailed, there was always a glimmer of hope and light that I knew, could only come from God.  I have been connecting with people who remind me of God's grace and remind me of how much I am needed in their lives.  Do you know what important mission you have to lead?  You might not even recognise that you are in a mission until you reach the end and realise just how much you contributed to that.

There's so much that I can say
About the man that I'm referring to
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus
All the praise belongs to You

What is your testimony?  What can you say about how much Jesus has done for you?  There are so many times that Jesus has shown up for me when I thought that I had lost all hope.  Sometimes you don't even recognise that He's there until you hear a voice in your head that speaks with so much clarity and authority, yet laced with compassion and love - that you just have to know, that it's Jesus.  Can you think about those moments in your head?  I think I've had several moments like that and I can distinctly recall that they happened at key periods in my life, the transition periods that had the most amount of change, coming out of a plateau and being thrust into unexpected situations.  But I guess that's how we gain experience right?

I wake up every morning thankful of a new
Day dawning just to see
Of more blessings that the Lord
Has in store for me

Sometimes I forget to thank Him for the new day.  I forget because I'm too busy worrying about things that I cannot control.  I forget because I'm too busy thinking about the things that I haven't completed from the previous day, or thinking about problems that I haven't solved yet.  It's important to thank Him, to set the day off and have Him watch over you as you go about your day.  Despite having a chaotic life that brings with it constant obstacles and issues, you still need to thank Him for your life.  It's taken me a long time to stop raging about this - and save the raging for other things that require such emotion.  Have you kept count of your blessings?  We are always better off than someone else.  It doesn't make us better than them, it just means we have better opportunities to make better choices to have a better quality of life.  These are blessings that we cannot foresee.

Now you may not understand
About the Man I'm talking 'bout
I'ma say His name again
When this song ends, try Him out

What do people understand about Jesus? They might remember stories that they learned when they attended Sunday School as a child, and for others, they might not know much because they have a different religion that they follow and believe in.  Or they don't believe in Jesus at all.  It is easy to blame a higher being for things not going right in your life.  We don't have to deal with any repercussions as we do from people that we blame.  We don't have to go through that entire rigmarole.  Is there anyone that you talk about and share about as much as you do Him?

So I tell 'em that it's You
You're the reason why I smile (You pick me up when I am low)
You pick me up when I am low
That's what you get when you're His child (that's what you get when you're His child)

I am grateful to Jesus for being a beacon of light when I need to see in the darkness. Thinking about His mercy and grace in my life helps me get through the day.  When I think about how many times He has caught me when I fell, picked me up when I couldn't get up, carried me when I couldn't walk - there is no end to the smiles that flit across my face.  Get into the habit of switching your negative thoughts about your situation by focusing on small steps you can take to getting to a solution.  It will take time, patience and possibly lots of prayer and faith.  But that's what you get when you're His child. . .

To be loved by you. . .

To be loved by you is like a breeze Like the summer rain falling through the trees Like the waves that's crashing on the seas, it's easy To be loved by you is like a song Playing in your head you can dance along Like running away with the dawn, it's easy Like flowers bloom, Like my love for you It's been a long time between blog posts. So much has happened since I last reflected about life around me through music. If you have read my blog posts before, then you would know that you are meant to play the YouTube clip (see below) while you read.  I stumbled across this new song that was released today. It's Anzac Day in Aotearoa New Zealand so it's also an opportune time to reflect on the service of our countrymen for peace in previous wars. There is something oddly familiar and comforting about this melody, this song. The whole vibe drew me in and I've always been a huge Emily King fan. Are you currently with someone who helps you feel this way? What is it lik...

Masterpiece (Mona Lisa). . .

My eyes ain't used to these rays I'm feeling exposed but I hide no more I can't hide As the sun shines on all of my glory My flaws don't look so bad at all What was I so afraid of? No matter how hard you try to hide, or try to be inconspicuous, it doesn't make a damn bit of difference. Trying to be lowkey when you are on high profile horizons is ridiculous. When your skills, gifts and talents thrust you into the spotlight, you know that you have a responsibility to do your best at all times, because it is no longer about you - it is about who you represent. You might be afraid that your failures and trauma, including your human flaws will all be on display for the world to see - but who has not lived an imperfect life? Why are we afraid of being exposed? Society teaches us to conform and be uniform. Sometimes all we need to do is insist on being comfortable with all our decisions, no matter where they lead us or where we were placed - because our flaws aren't as...
