Lifted. . .

Keep my (eyes from) closing. . .

Bound to this lonely road
You gave me hope, gave me hope
Woke my drifting soul
And led me home, led me home

I'm not very familiar with this song, but I've had it sitting in my drafts folder of my Spotify playlist for just over a month.  I've only just started listening to it again today and it's been haunting me ever since.  The music itself reminds me a little bit of Alicia Keys' "Unthinkable" with the rhythmic feel, albeit it's a bit slower, but the momentum feels the same to me, more so harmony wise when the chorus hits.  Adele's "Send my love (to your new lover) is another song that springs to mind when I hear this particular track.  Saying all this doesn't detract though from the brilliance of this song though.  I'm just acknowledging that the great thing about good music is that it can help you to make connections to other songs.

Won't you just stay here
Chase away my fears
Set my spirit free

Who will you ask to stay here?
When you long for people to stick around, they probably won't because they're not meant to stay.
If people could stay around, but more often than not, they are compelled to move on and allow you to grow and do things that you wouldn't be able to do - if they had stayed.  You can choose to think this way when you think about the countless loved ones and lifelines who have passed on, transcended beyond this world we're currently in and watch us from afar.  When they can no longer help to chase away your fears or set your spirit free, you need to learn how to do this for yourself. Or if you always knew how to do these things, but you were preoccupied in helping others do the same. at your own expense, it's time to focus on yourself.  Easier said than done - but totally worth it.

Won't you lead the way
Through my darker days
Keep them softly spoken
Show me the way
To a brighter place
Keep my eyes from closing
Oo

Have the faith and courage to lead your own way, or if you need to, trust in a higher power who is able to get you there.  When we close our eyes, we might not be getting the respite that we are hoping for.  Instead we are surrounded by the darkness of worry and fears that threaten to embed itself into our souls if we let it.  Trust instead in the good thoughts and words of encouragement that those who love you have been able to share on so many other occasions that you required it.  If it helps, think about those words in songs that you can easily sing to yourself.  There is something to be said for really good music that is able to speak to you in this way.  What brighter places there are that lie just beyond your reach.  It is the hope that you will see these places soon that should be able to sustain you.  This is why you can't keep your eyes closed dear friend.  There is so much more to see beyond your pain.

Lifted away from my demons
Eh yeah, eh yeah, eh yeah, eh yeah
Lifted away from my secrets
Eh yeah, eh yeah, eh yeah, eh yeah

What demons are trying to hold on to you?  Your own guilt?  People wanting you to feel that guilt?
At the end of the day, there are people that act in your best interest or they don't.  You have to question what their interests are.  You never need to understand people's motivations in this way - why they have decided that you are a threat to them.  You are not responsible for the insecurities.  You have your own that you need to deal with that can be solved with something as simple as - perspective.  Acknowledge, accept then act.  There are many times that people have come to you for advice and wanted to pick your brain and wished for you to solve their problems, rather than them seeking their own solutions.  This no longer needs to be the case.  Instead you have lifted away from your own secrets/  Trust that you will be able to fully live in the light that you have talked about so often.

Oh my heavy bones
They weigh me down
Weigh me down
Held by a single thread
When you are gone
When you're gone

If you are left by the presence of people that you leave you far worse than before they arrived - then these are not the types of people to keep in your life.  Instead, do whatever it needs to take to remove yourself from situations that do not celebrate who you, do not value you, do not allow you to grow.  Change comes when you acknowledge, accept and act.  People will not be able to understand what is happening, and if that's the case, then they are not meant to know.  They will never really realise the impact of what has happened until you have taken yourself away from the situation.  Your bones need not to heavy anymore.  You no longer need to be weighed down by what you think has held you back.  Instead, open your eyes and see what the new days ahead will bring.  Be comforted that you are always surrounded by love and that you are never lead to a path that you can never wal  We k on your own.  We will eventually leave this earth as alone as when we arrived.  Be prepared to fly solo.

And if you start to fade
I will keep your faith
Like you do
If you feel afraid
I will keep your faith
Like you do

I hope that you understand how much you can achieve, how much you will gain when you get there.
Being there - nobody knows what their particularly version of 'there' will be.  It is important to plan one's life and see what we can achieve, and we can anticipate what we think can come, but we can never truly be sure.  This is normally when worry steps in.  Instead, resist the urge to let worry knock on your door, push past you and settle in.  Just stand calmly at the door and tell worry that you're not interesting in buying what they're selling.  There is no room for worry to enter your abode.  Your house is already filled with the necessary occupants to make it a happy home.  It might not seem like it at the worst of times, but isn't that when the occupants come together at their best?  There are the only things that you need to remember, to keep in your heart, and let others know that if you close your eyes, it is only for the briefest of moments. because nothing should be burning more in your heart than your own determination and passion, nothing should keep your eyes from your prize. Don't falter. Nothing will keep my eyes from closing. . .

Closer. . .

I was cruising down the street with my head in the sky Going nowhere fast trying to stay high oh, oh Windows down my arms are waving Oh Lord I can't feel ma face no no, no no, aye, Sister please won't you sing for me Sing a song to set us free, free Brother please won't you sing for me Sing a song to set us free, free The original version of this song is upbeat. I prefer this acoustic version as it resonates more with me, something about it going deep down in my soul (or it could just be the piano accompaniment). We might think we are heading nowhere fast because we keep comparing ourselves to our peers, our contemporaries and the timeline that we set for ourselves to complete all of our dreams and goals. We forget that life happens and things outside of our control, start to take control - and this is where the real work begins within ourselves - whether we have the right support systems of brothers and sisters to sing us songs of freedom - what can we collectively do toge...

Have you ever seen the rain? . . .

Comin' down on a sunny day. . .  Someone told me long ago There's a calm before the storm I know it's been comin for some time When it's over so they say It'll rain a sunny day I know shinin' down like water Learning to be prepared for any given event is something that you should be able to do. I've recently discovered this amazing artist named Josh Tatofi.  I think the reason why I love his voice so much is because he sounds like my late husband.  The same smooth vocal line, the effortless way in which he dances along the melody line and does his own background harmonies reminds me so much of Loma's insistence on perfection when it came to singing, as much as he joked around about just singing for fun.  I love the arrangement of the song - it's fresh, easy going and laidback and it's something you can easily bob your head along to in the car or wherever you seem to be travelling to or from. I want to know Have you ever seen the rai...

God provides. . .

There's no more need to fight. . .  God provides, so why do I worry about my life When you come to my rescue a thousand times Every other voice it is a lie God provides It is easy to worry about your life.  It's what humans are built to do. We worry about so many things.  What people think of us.  How we act towards said people.  We worry about things that we cannot control, things we cannot hold.  We spend far too much time worrying about things that we shouldn't be worrying about.  When we think that nothing can come from anything, that's when God provides, above all else.  How many times have you been rescued?  Did you ask to be rescued?  Did you ask to be placed in those situations that required God to step in and save you?  Maybe yes.  Maybe no.  But one thing that I've come to know is that God has never lead me to a place that I couldn't get through, that I couldn't understand why I was lead there, that I di...
