Somewhere only we know. . .

So why don't we go. . .

I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete

There is comfort in knowing where you are going, knowing where you are heading.
That sense of familiarity brings you confidence that you can't shake because there is no doubt.
When you go to cross those empty lands, what things are running through your mind?  Do you think about what was there before? Why is that land empty now?  There must have been some things that existed there for you to be able to recognise empty land without its landmarks.  When you feel the earth beneath your feet, are you feeling its texture and how your feet respond to being planted there?  Sitting by the river, you might be aware of the sound that the water makes as it brushes against the river's edges.  Depending on what type of river it is, the flow of that river may reflect what you are feeling inside or not.  What type of water makes you feel a sense of completion.  Tranquil or testy?

Oh, simple thing, where have you gone?
I'm getting old, and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin

Simple things only disappear when they are replaced by the complexities that we put in its place.
Or those simple things disappear because other factors seek to complicate the actual state.  If we do not pay attention to those simple things, they mainly grow to be difficult things because we have been trying to avoid them and choose not to acknowledge how quickly and stealthily things can change when we least expect.  Are you aging gracefully? Do you find yourself lamenting how much easier things used to be when you were growing up, as opposed to what you're facing now?  We are never content with what we have, when we have it, so that's something we need to address if we are to live a life with meaning, purpose and love. That could be a good place to begin.

I came across a fallen tree
I felt the branches of it looking at me
Is this the place we used to love?
Is this the place that I've been dreaming of?

What once stood tall and proud, may now have fallen.
We might struggle to remember what things used to be like before we realised what was happening.
Fallen trees can be finding ways to be of use in other spaces, for others around it, than its intended use.  When we are faced with new pathways that seem to require a little more time to figure out, it doesn't mean it's the wrong path - just a slightly different one.  Do you know all of the places that you used to love?  You may choose to revisit those old haunts, or you might find yourself gravitating unknowingly to those places like you know the back of the palm of your hand.  All of those familiar places laden with memories that seem so different in the present.

And if you have a minute why don't we go
Talk about it somewhere only we know?
This could be the end of everything
So why don't we go
Somewhere only we know?

What do you need to talk about?
You may find that the conversation is somewhat stalled, somewhat stilted and you don't know what to say to each other anymore.  This is all completely natural.  The art of conversation is hard to master and one that requires an understanding of the position that you would like to take as you are interacting.  For the most part you focus far too much on how you would like to be perceived by the other person, rather than really being honest about how you are feeling inside and just being that person.  The socially acceptable ways of behaving and knowing what you should be doing in any given situation is subject to things arriving at a natural conclusion, or not.

Oh, simple thing, where have you gone?
I'm getting old, and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin

You might be finding it hard to let others in these days.
When you do try to tell people what's going on, they spend time judging you because instead of listening to you, they're comparing how they would be, if they were you.  This is not conducive to any meaningful type of connection.  They might start yelling at you for not being normal and not being able to pull yourself together.  Why must you be ready because they are?  Should they be ready when you are?  We may never able to let each other in because we are too intent on keeping people out.  It may take you a moment to recognise where you are going to begin again.  It's ok to be tired.
This could be the end of everything
So why don't we go
Somewhere only we know
Somewhere only we know
Somewhere only we know

Who is to know when the end of everything happens?
The most vivid times in your life have been when you think something ends, but then recurrences happen like some bad ending of a horror movie that lets you know that some tacky sequel is on the way.  Despite all of this, you still have some options, you still have some choices.  You can make a decision to get up and go.  Find the places within yourself that do not require so much effort that makes you give up.  There is hope.  There is faith.  What if this is the end of everything?  Then it's time to rely on what is to come.  If the only safe places to go are within, then why don't we go?  It's one place of somewhere only we know. . .

Closer. . .

I was cruising down the street with my head in the sky Going nowhere fast trying to stay high oh, oh Windows down my arms are waving Oh Lord I can't feel ma face no no, no no, aye, Sister please won't you sing for me Sing a song to set us free, free Brother please won't you sing for me Sing a song to set us free, free The original version of this song is upbeat. I prefer this acoustic version as it resonates more with me, something about it going deep down in my soul (or it could just be the piano accompaniment). We might think we are heading nowhere fast because we keep comparing ourselves to our peers, our contemporaries and the timeline that we set for ourselves to complete all of our dreams and goals. We forget that life happens and things outside of our control, start to take control - and this is where the real work begins within ourselves - whether we have the right support systems of brothers and sisters to sing us songs of freedom - what can we collectively do toge...

Have you ever seen the rain? . . .

Comin' down on a sunny day. . .  Someone told me long ago There's a calm before the storm I know it's been comin for some time When it's over so they say It'll rain a sunny day I know shinin' down like water Learning to be prepared for any given event is something that you should be able to do. I've recently discovered this amazing artist named Josh Tatofi.  I think the reason why I love his voice so much is because he sounds like my late husband.  The same smooth vocal line, the effortless way in which he dances along the melody line and does his own background harmonies reminds me so much of Loma's insistence on perfection when it came to singing, as much as he joked around about just singing for fun.  I love the arrangement of the song - it's fresh, easy going and laidback and it's something you can easily bob your head along to in the car or wherever you seem to be travelling to or from. I want to know Have you ever seen the rai...

God provides. . .

There's no more need to fight. . .  God provides, so why do I worry about my life When you come to my rescue a thousand times Every other voice it is a lie God provides It is easy to worry about your life.  It's what humans are built to do. We worry about so many things.  What people think of us.  How we act towards said people.  We worry about things that we cannot control, things we cannot hold.  We spend far too much time worrying about things that we shouldn't be worrying about.  When we think that nothing can come from anything, that's when God provides, above all else.  How many times have you been rescued?  Did you ask to be rescued?  Did you ask to be placed in those situations that required God to step in and save you?  Maybe yes.  Maybe no.  But one thing that I've come to know is that God has never lead me to a place that I couldn't get through, that I couldn't understand why I was lead there, that I di...
