Be yourself. . .

Be yourself, be yourself You were gonna call her back  And I ain't gonna hold you back  And there ain't nothing wrong with that Thought you'd wait I'd give you back Have you ever given someone licence to be themselves?  They might be spending far too much time trying to be someone else or trying to impress you with being someone else.  I don't understand why people do that.  To me, it's always been pretty easy to spot someone who isn't being their authentic self.  How can you tell?  It's not like that teacher from,  I can't recall which Harry Potter movie/book now, you know the one, he drinks a potion to stay in his fake human form while he's working at Hogwarts (apologies to all Harry Potter fans for that ridiculously vague description).  But what if you've been so busy being someone else, you don't even remember how to be yourself anymore? Lately something's been on your mind Man's up (?), still suck, lovestruck what'...

What if. . .

If you're like me, you probably didn't realise that Kate Winslet recorded some songs or you had no idea that she could sing.  Well, here we are.  I've had this song sitting in my ManuScript Drafts Spotify playlist for a while.  I didn't quite find the right moment to use this song in a blog post and it's only been in recent months that I realise that this song is actually appropriate to talk about, or use as a reflection - right now.  If you're only just starting to read my blogs and you're on Spotify, make sure you follow the Spotify playlist "ManuScript" where I've loaded all the songs I've blogged about.  Here I stand alone With this weight upon my heart And it will not go away In my head, I keep on looking back Right back to the start Wondering what it was that made you change When do you usually find yourself standing alone?  Normally when you are left to pick up the pieces that someone has left behind, or you are in a space w...

Hard place. . .

Wanna believe what you say But I hate you on most days You've been testing my faith and my patience And you know that I be headstrong But you know that you be dead wrong Telling me to relax when I'm reacting You know when you want to believe what they say, but you kind of at the time, had to suspend disbelief because it just seemed too good to be true?  Well, you should've gone with your gut instinct.  It was too good to be true.  And try as hard as he might, to have promised you the world or at least try to connect with all of the things that he knew was important to you - how can you believe those things again?  We hate people on most days because they give us reason to hate them. Why are they so surprised when things seem different, or that, you've changed? What did they think would happen?  When you get asked a question and they don't like the answer, and then attack you then say you're reacting?  What kind of tomfoolery is that? You're trying to...

Stringing me along. . .

Baby, you know that I love ya But you don't seem to care whether I'm here nor there You treat me mean and keep me keen Just pulling me along on a string  Do you know someone who treats you mean to keep you keen?  Have you fallen for that trap?  They won't care about your comings and goings.  They couldn't care less about what you did or said.  Is this what happens naturally in situations when you least expect it?  Where do we get the social cues wrong?  Are we interpreting mixed messages?  Sometimes people are different when they are on their own with you, and then completely different in front of an audience.  Granted it's hard to be your authentic self at all times because not everybody accepts you for who you are. You just keep stringing me along, you just keep stringing me along And I would rather be strung along than never see you at all You're so mean to me but I would rather be At your beck and call than never hear from you a...

Must've been something. . .

You said I, I didn't do anything wrong But there must've been somethin' I could've done better  Oh, oh you said I, I didn't do anything wrong But there's must've been somethin' I could've done better It is always hard to know if you have done something wrong.  Especially if you don't know because you are never told, or nothing is ever revealed - no notice.  Nothing.  Zip.  But you learn to figure out what to do with the rest of your time while the rest of you waits in silence for all to be made known in time.  Do you think about the things that you could've done better?  People always want to go back and do things again, have the chance to either make things right or to say what was really burning on their mind.  When someone tells you that you've done nothing wrong, do you believe them?  How do you know for sure that even when they say you don't, it still kind of feels like you did but you're not sure? Did you want me at h...
