I close my eyes and I can see
The world that's waiting up for me
That I call my own
Through the dark, through the door
Through where no one's been before
But it feels like home
What do you call home? There will be so many obstacles that come in the form of people or things and events that threaten to keep you from calling any place, home. If you cannot find that physical place to call home it might be safer to instead think of what home feels like within yourself. The best thing about doing that is nobody can take that away from you unless you give them the power to do so. Do you believe that you have the power to create your own world? I have had so many people around me at various stages of their lives, talk to me about how they are not in control of their own situations and their own worlds. The responsibilities, obligations and things that they have to do in order to make other people's lives possible, to make their quality of life possible at the expense of yours - this may be true, but it doesn't have to be that way for any longer than you want it to be.
They can say, they can say it all sounds crazy
They can say, they can say I've lost my mind
I don't care, I don't care, so call me crazy
We can live in a world that we design
It is easy for people to think that you are crazy because of society's view that you must conform and behave in certain ways. Are you prepared to continue to be judged for every single thing that you do? I'm not suggesting that you shouldn't care, because that's the catchcry that people use when they are fed up with being judged - I don't care. But I believe the most accurate phrase to use is actually - "I don't place importance on other people's opinions that are designed to stop me from living my dreams." When we prioritise other people's opinions that are based on jealousy or their own insecurities because you have come to know yourself - in ways that others could never do - that is their tragedy. If you lose your mind because of the ideas and dreams that you have, could it be because the people around you aren't the dreamers? Instead, they are the dream breakers, the dream stealers and dream killers, because they are not the dream makers, dream weavers or dream livers like you.
Cause every night I lie in bed
The brightest colours fill my head
A million dreams are keeping me awake
I think of what the world could be
A vision of the one I see
A million dreams is all it's gonna take
A million dreams for the world we're gonna make
Have you ever experienced that feeling of insomnia - the kind of insomnia because your idea is just full of ideas that you can't sleep until those ideas have found some creative outlet? For me, that is a constant problem and challenge, because at times I would want to tame or pull back, refrain from being pushed along like someone stuck in a strong current, unable to stay grounded. It is hard to really put into words that kind of freedom. When those colours fill your head and everything those lights touch on those colours, just make them seem so much brighter. When you go to open your eyes from your dreams when you have to face the world again, you wonder how you are going to have to function and keep yourself contained. What million dreams are keeping you awake?
There's a house we can build
Every room inside is filled
With things from far away
The special things I compile
Each one there to make you smile
On a rainy day
Have you built your house? What kinds of special things from far away do you have in each room? Those memories that you create with those artefacts and objects that have a story behind each of them - do you visit each room and think about the memories behind each one? You might have your own mementoes in your physical house right now that you collected over the years but you have forgotten were there. You might move house and then stumble across them. When we come across old objects when we are trying to spring clean, we might have to make the decision about whether to keep them or make room for new objects. There is a lot of fun to be had with having shared objects that have shared memories with a significant person. When you lose someone, those objects may remain and all you have left are the memories.
They can say, they can say it all sounds crazy
They can say, they can say I've lost my mind
I don't care, I don't care, so call me crazy
Runaway to a world that we design
Have you been brave enough to run away to a world of your design? You might think you don't have that luxury to do that. Well, that's true if you are following the pathway that society dictates for you - what success means, what it means to contribute to society, what it means to have all of the trappings of being a citizen of the country you are in. I have often thought that the seemingly crazy people are the most lucid of us all. When I have had conversations with people who others have defined as "not being all there" I have always been able to learn something from them that so-called normal people have been able to express. The thing that happens when you lose your mind, you can take the time to find it again. Once you find your mind again, you have to think about whether you need to lose it again, a little more often, and maybe even for a longer period of time.
However big, however small
Let me be part of it all
Share your dreams with me
You may be right, you may be wrong
But say that you'll bring me along
To the world you see
To the world, I close my eyes to see
I close my eyes to see
Do you share your million dreams with people who care about you? There is something to be said about having someone be your ultimate cheerleader, that they will be prepared to ride with you until your dreams come to fruition. If you are smart enough to figure out, keep those people around you who have been cheering you when you felt like giving up. Keep those people who never doubted your ability to do anything you set your mind to. Leave those naysayers and their fake congratulations at the door. They were counting on you to fail the entire time. It is important to take people along on your journey if they are equipped to also work on their journey. The worst thing is to take someone along who tries to sabotage your journey. Who does that? Sadly I've seen too many instances of this not to ignore it. Be careful who you show your world.

What do you want your world to be? You might think that you are destined to accept the world around you as it is. But you know what, your attitude to how the world is around you, can in the smallest of ways, start to turn things around for you. I have talking to lots of teachers lately and one thing I have been telling them is - find the useful in the useless. There are things that we think are a waste of time or not viable - but I think it is important to be able to shift your mindset and consider what else there is in that world for you. If you have lost your faith in yourself along the way, you have come to a plateau in your life and you don't know how you'll get through what you are going through, just breathe. Take it all in. I think people are fixated on just wishing for the happy days and that things were always easy, but no, we need to relish how inconceivably difficult it is to reach our goals because as long as we keep them in sight, pretty soon we will see all of it come to reality, even if right now they just seem like a million dreams. . .
